Hoher Kasten – above the Rhine Valley

The Hoher Kasten has been accessible via an aerial cable car since 1964. In a few minutes one glides from Brülisau near Appenzell to the peak at 1,795 meters, famous for its modern revolving restaurant and panoramic view. The ride alone offers a fascinating view of the hills of Appenzellerland and the majestic Alpstein.

The views from the platform between Appenzell country and the St. Gallen Rhine Valley are striking, as is the ridge towards Kreuzberge. Since 1964, the cable car from Brülisau (bus from Weissbad) has run directly to the summit. A revolving restaurant with a sun terrace also stands on the extended panoramic platform since a few years.

Allalin – at the heart of things

If one did not have before one’s mind’s eye the dazzling mountain world and the glittering glacier next to the entrance to the Alpine Metro, one would forget that the tunnel walls rushing by at a speed of ten meters per second are part of the High Alps.

Following a ten-minute gondola cable ride to Felskinn, the trip continues with a ten meters per second ascent in the highest Metro funicular as you make your way to the world’s highest revolving restaurant.

Mont Salève – Geneva's home mountain

A rewarding excursion destination is Mont Salève, which is situated in neighbouring France.

Geneva’s home mountain lies around 900 meters above the Jet d'Eau, on French terrain, yet at the heart of Geneva. And the mountain has been connected to mountain rail since over 120 years. Impressive views over the canton of Geneva as far as the Jura - and Mont Blanc on a clear day.

Fronalpstock – panorama views

A short walk, which is a pleasure in this car-free vacation destination, takes you to the valley station of the Stoos-Fronalpstock aerial cableway. Next to the Hotel Schwyzer Bärghus you will see the small station building of the gondola train. The 560-meter height is conquered in a jiffy.

The striking observation platform above Brunnen is easily reached by chairlift from car-free Stoos. And sweeping views extend from part of Lake Lucerne as far as the Black Forest.
