The two-day guided hiking tour is a highlight of the unique mountain world of the UNESCO World Heritage region Swiss Alps Jungfrau – Aletsch. The Aletsch Glacier hike leads across the great Aletsch Glacier, which at 23 kilometers length and a surface area of 80 square kilometers is the longest and largest glacier in Western Europe.
The highest and most beautiful peaks of the Swiss Alps can be seen in the impressive mountain panorama on the Europe Route. The Mischabel group, the Weisshorn and of course the world famous Matterhorn compete for the favour of the observer. Only once does the path drop down to the floor of the valley, between Gspon and Zermatt. Otherwise the path snakes it’s way, sometimes in a daring manner along the steep sides of the Saaser and Matter valleys. Places such as Saas Fee, Grächen and Zermatt lie directly on the route. Five days of top class mountain walking.
Sports activities and nature conservancy are not always and everywhere reconcilable. Conflicts arise frequently: Climbing activities during the breeding times of the peregrine falcon and the eagle owl, or paragliding in areas where chamois make their home, are disturbing influences in pristine nature.
Climbers are particularly prudent and thoughtful. Planning and preparing a climb are as important as the execution. Taking into account other climbers on the same mountain is as much a concern for them as the protection of untouched nature.
