Special Commendation, 2001: "For the contemporary architectural interpretation of an historic building and for the re-establishment of its role as a public place within the town's social structure".
Special Commendation 1999: The Restaurant Obstgarten in Oberlangenhard was established in a well-maintained timber-frame construction deriving from the 18th century. In 1974, the building was stripped to reveal its original timber framing. The fine guest lounge still dates principally from the 19th century.
This old building of over a hundred years has lost none of its former charm and grandeur. Visitors from around the world are enchanted with the nostalgic rooms, the impressive staircase and the sophisticated manner in which this has remained a young hotel. Still run by its founding family, this is a place where aficionados, gourmets, children, artists and nature lovers feel right at home.
Overlooking a mountain lake, right on the edge of a forest and with an unobstructed view of the Alps. This traditional 30's hotel has been restored time and again, always with attention to detail. Most rooms are south-facing and have a balcony. Large lounge, Valais cuisine and special menus. Great location for winter sports and summer activities.
