– Auditorio RSI, the 2014 concert season at the Auditorio, gets underway in Lugano at 8:30 p.m. on Friday 10 January, bringing "Instrumental extravaganzas" and plenty of new features to Rete Due.Instruments will play the lead role: from the traditional instruments played by the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana (Orchestra of Italian Switzerland) to those less commonly found in concert halls, such as the pedal piano, the mouth organ, Panpipes, the saxophone and the Hang, a Swiss instrument.The season will include twelve musical performances by the OSI on Friday evenings at the Auditorio, which will be broadcast live on air and on Rete Due at 8:30 p.m.; the rediscovered formula of the "résidence" featuring the eclectic Turkish pianist Fazil Say, who will perform in a recital from 21 to 26 January; a symphonic concert and a chamber concert by students from the Scuola Universitaria del Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana; the Spotlight on Ashkenazy project (with a special "short season" ticket) that brings Vladimir Ashkenazy to the Auditorio; a concert by the Barocchisti, conducted by Diego Fasolis to follow the Panpipe performance by Michel Tirabosco and Matthijs Koene; and lastly, two new offerings for the Monday evening at the Studio2 RSI, taking the musical centre of gravity to the boundary between classical music and international folk and bringing the Gruppo Ocarinistico Budriese and Ensemble Khaled Arman to the stage.The season will conclude on 18 April with the traditional Good Friday Concert, a co-production with Lugano Festival, Vesperali and the City of Bellinzona. The Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the RSI Choir and Soloists will perform Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 2 "Hymn of Praise", conducted by Diego Fasolis, at the Collegiata di Bellinzona.
