Intro

Maloja lies at the western end of Lake Sils and connects two fascinating landscapes: the Upper Engadine Lake District and the Graubünden’s southern valley of Bergell. Here one appreciates above all the uncomplicated atmosphere, the spirit of famous painters and traditionally made sausages.

Description

The emblem of Maloja stands above the village: the 19th century Belvedere Tower, from which one can enjoy a spectacular view of the entire village.

The village at the border of Italian-speaking Switzerland does everything to uphold its reputation as a family-friendly vacation destination. But not just families are at ease in this natural environment. The fascinating play of light and shadow has always attracted artists. Giovanni Segantini selected Maloja as his last home and subject for many landscape paintings. Also Giovanni Giacometti – the father of Alberto Giacometti – worked here. Their spirit is still an inspiration for exhibitions, readings and concerts.

Winter

Since 1969 Maloja has been the starting point for the legendary Engadin Ski Marathon. Here, on the Upper Engadin plateau with its frozen lakes under a blanket of snow, and surrounded by high mountains, guests enjoy mountain sports, culture and gastronomy – and, above all, rest and relaxation.

The family ski area of Aela is very popular amongst all those who are not interested in hustle and bustle, but prefer active relaxation with sports activities. In addition, snowtubing, an ice rink, winter hiking areas and snowshoe tours, invite visitors to explore the region around Maloja.

Summer

Enjoying the shoreline of Lake Sils on foot, on skates or by bike is a popular pastime in the Upper Engadine. But Maloja is also the starting point for inspiring and border-crossing hiking paths like the idyllic Via Bregaglia, the challenging Via Alpina and the romantic Via Engiadina. Passionate bike riders undertake a 530-kilometer long tour along the river Inn to Passau.

Lake Sils has international renown amongst sailors and surfers thanks to the steady Maloja breeze. In the Adventure Park visitors find challenging adventures. Lake Cavloccio (1,907 meters above sea level) entices you to bathe.
