Description

The Hotel Chesa Grischuna was built in 1938 by the Zurich star architect Hermann Schneider as a total work of art. He managed to combine craft traditions in the most beautiful way with creative contemporary art right down to the last file. Through the GIs stationed in the Chesa during World War II, the hotel became known in the USA and attracted famous writers and personalities from the film industry, who soon called the Chesa affectionately 'Hollywood on the rocks'. The tradition of warm hospitality is cultivated today by Barbara Rios Guler and Marianne Randall. In 2020 the Chesa Grischuna was chosen as the "Historic Hotel of Switzerland 2020", in 2000 the restaurant of the Chesa Grischuna (15 points Gault Millau) received an award from ICOMOS, the international preservation agency, and the Chesa Grischuna was awarded 6 times at the World Ski Awards voted "Switzerland's Best Ski Bout

The hotel was built in the Landi style, inspired by the 1939 National Exhibition. The original inventory is carefully preserved and nurtured. The restaurant is recognized for its architectural authenticity and its fresh market produce cuisine. Chesa is incidentally also known as 'Hollywood on the rocks': Movie stars, producers and directors from around the world love to stop in here for a bite to eat.

Certified by ICOMOS

Special distinction 2000 Distinguished "for the preservation and the long lasting care of a traditional general work of art (from the interior design to the small items) as a manifest of high quality country style from the late 30s". The Chesa Grischuna was built in 1938, at a time when Switzerland was reclaiming its traditional style through the National Exhibition in Zurich. Architecture, interior design, loose furniture and everything else in the inventory were all designed by Hermann Schneider, a Zurich architect. The work was carried out exclusively by local artisans. Artists from the owner’s circle of friends also contributed some frescoes and paintings to the collective work of art. The history of the house is closely linked to detained American soldiers, who returned to the Chesa Grischuna after the war with their families and friends to create a “little Hollywood”. To this day, the hotel has never lost its unique atmosphere. In November 2019 the hotel was deservedly awarded the "Historic Hotel of the Year 2020" prize.
