Darf's ein bisschen mehr sein?

UNESCO World Heritage Lavaux, Vineyard Terraces: wine and more

Manmade but unbelievably beautiful, the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces that march up steep hillsides from the shores of Lake Geneva have been a Unesco World Heritage site since 2007. Walking trails weave scenically through the vineyards to picture-book villages and vintners where you can linger over a glass of the local wine.

Vaudois Jura Nature Park: forests, lakes and moors

Stretching from the 1700m summit of La Dôle to the medieval monastery town of Romainmôtier, the Vaudois Jura Nature Park amazes with its natural wonders and rich culture. Forests, lake, moors, dramatic cliffs and rock formations impress, as does the National Arboretum with its collection of 4000 trees, shrubs and plants.

Les Grangettes Nature Reserve (Pro Natura) near Villeneuve: a beautiful biotope

Lake Geneva's last stretch of protected shoreline, this nature reserve is an important refuge for wildlife. The only one of its kind in Europe, the wild biotope is best discovered from the banks of the Rhône or from a solar-powered boat. This is birdwatching heaven - with a little luck, you might spot blue flash of a kingfisher.

Regional specialities

Vacherin Mont d’Or *

Made the traditional way from April to September, this soft, runny cow's milk cheese is highly seasonal and hard to resist. Take care: the cheese is almost liquid when fully ripe!

Sel Bex *

Deep in the heart of the Vaud Alps, Sel Bex is the pure, high-quality salt extracted from the mines in the municipality of the same name. Find out more with a tour of the Bex salt mines.

Saucisse au choux *

Vaud would be unimaginable without saucisse au choux. This traditional pork and cabbage sausage has been made the same way for centuries - smoked 24 hours before it is sold. It's the perfect accompaniment to Papet Vaudois leek and potato stew.
