When you go on a circular hiking tour from Arvigo to the terrace of Landarenca and back to Braggio, you will obtain a good overview of Graubünden’s narrow southern valley. The fabulous view of the Calanca Valley and the little villages with their typical stone-roof houses make this hike exceptional.

Description

From the starting point in Arvigo the path rises and leads past the left side of Calanca Valley to Landarenca located at 1280 meters. From here the path snakes down to Selma. The dreamy hamlet of Landarenca with its old stone houses is served by a small "self-service" cable car that walkers should use for the descent, to avoid knee strain.

From Selma the path leads over the Monti di Bersach to Mondent towards Braggio, from where you return to Arvigo by aerial cable car.

It is also easy to walk individual sections of this tour. However, the circular tour taking in both sides of the valley is a special experience.

Hints

Graubünden's southern valley, parallel to the Misox, has a climate that is at once harsh, intemperate and Mediterranean. Its beauty becomes evident on a circular tour starting in Arvigo. The trail leads through a sparse mountain forest and to the car-free and picturesque villages of Landarenca and Braggio. Two cablecars climb the steep mountain faces, allowing time for a break, a chance to breath in the fresh air and the opportunity to explore the sparsely grown region and its villages. The stresses and strains of modern life apparently never reached this valley and its grottos. Time is measured here by a different standard.

Other attraction: Landarenca and Braggio; Arvigo: old arched bridge, Gneis quarry. Chapels and churches are found by the wayside and in the villages (particularly worth seeing: Church near Braggio).

Various: Cable cars run between Landarenca - Selma and Braggio - Arvigo.

The careful planning of a tour will ensure that you also derive the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from it. Please take the time to contact the local information centre and enquire about route and weather conditions before setting off. Your intended trail may be fully or partially closed, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.
