Intro

Espace pays tribute to two great artistic celebrities from the latter half of the twentieth century. Jean Tinguely and his wife Niki de St Phalle profoundly marked the cultural and artistic life of Fribourg.

Specially refurbished for the purpose, an old tram depot close to Fribourg’s Museum of Art and History houses the Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle’s L'Espace creation.

Jean Tinguely was a genius in the moving art scene. His sculptures gradually evolved towards works simultaneously touching several senses: sight, hearing, touch and even smell.

Niki de St Phalle, a French born artist, was the wife of Jean Tinguely. Her most striking works are probably the "Nanas".
