Emmental

The city of Bern lies just west of the beautiful and hilly Emmental region. The verdant hills form the foothills of the Bernese Alps and are encircled by the River Emme. Train travel through the valley is peaceful, convenient and scenic. Make time for a stop at the Emmental Shoe Dairy to purchase the valley's trademark Emmentaler cheese (the Swiss cheese with the holes).

Whether you're on a day trip or a few days' holiday, you certainly won't be bored in the Emmental region. Hiking, snow shoe walking, Nordic walks, panning for gold, golf, cycling, riding, pottery - something to satisfy virtually every desire.

Bern

Not many cities have managed to retain their historic features quite as successfully as Bern, the capital of Switzerland. The old town of Bern has been entered in the list of UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Sites and thanks to its 6 kilometres of arcades - the locals refer to them as 'Lauben' - boasts on of the longest weather-sheltered shopping promenades in Europe. The Zentrum Paul Klee houses the most comprehensive collection of works by the artist.
