Description

The most popular of all the multi-day tours of Switzerland, the cycling country, runs 370 kilometres from Romanshorn on Lake Constance to Lausanne on Lake Geneva and at an elevation of just 1,600 metres has virtually no inclines. Most of the route is away from motorised traffic and is therefore ideally suited for pleasure cyclists and families. The cleverly designed route leads along lakes and rivers, through wide plains and peaceful valleys, towns and villages but also through urban centres such as Zurich. From Solothurn, as the “Water- way”, it follows the River Aare which meanders scenically through the Three- Lakes region to Lake Biel. The route runs along Lake Neuchâtel to Yverdon-les-Bains. The Venoge, a wild stream, home to a colony of beavers, flows into the small silvery “sea” of French-speaking Switzerland – Lake Geneva with its terraced vineyards and magnificent views of snow-capped mountains.

Highlights

  • Hagenwil, water castle with restaurant
  • Winterthur, International Photo Museum
  • Aarau with its cobblestone Old Town and the cafés along the Aare
  • Solothurn, the most beautiful baroque city in Switzerland, Champ-Pittet
  • Pro Natura Centre in the “Swiss Camargue”
  • Lausanne, picturesque old town and headquarters of the International Olympic Committee
