Intro

The fabled pilgrimage church possesses a magical allure and is highly regarded. The mythical and magical adventure trails nearby are very popular.

According to legend, in the late Middle Ages a wild ox was let loose in the Alsace region in France in order to verify the authenticity of a piece of Jesus’ crucifix that had been excavated. The animal went up the Rhine, arriving at Entlebuch where it took up residence. This is where the altar at Heiligkreuz now stands. This is how it came to be a popular place of pilgrimage.

The tradition of pilgrimage remains alive and well. On Good Friday in particular, large crowds gather in processions to Heiligkreuz, along the 14 Stations of the Cross from either Schüpfheim or Hasle.

All around the sacred place of pilgrimage at Heiligkreuz, mythical and magical adventure trails have sprung up, such as the fitness trail or the Seelensteg footpath. A massive ancient sycamore tree that is known as a tree of power invites visitors to recharge their energy.

Why is it a power spot?

Since time immemorial, it has been known as a place with a special allure. These power spots are zones that have increased natural energies. Heiligkreuz also gives off such energy. At the height of the pilgrimages, often more than 6,000 people would come here on a pilgrimage day.
