Kiental

Reichenbach

The Kien Valley, famous for its charming landscape, is one of the Kander Valley's large adjacent valleys. A gradient of 28% has to be tackled on the way to Griesalp. It's almost unfathomable that even a post bus runs up here. Apart from the gradient, the Kien Valley tour is not particularly demanding. There is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the picturesque landscape. The silhouette of the Blüemlisalphorn, capped with snow and ice, looms in the upper part of the valley at the horizon. Deep canyons and wonderful forests define the rest of this tranquil valley.

Reichenbach - Kien - Aris - Kiental - Tschingel - Griesalp - Bundalp - Griesalp - Tschingel - Kiental - Haasele - Reichenbach

The tour starts at Reichenbach in the Kander Valley and runs at first via Kien up to the hamlet of Aris. Deeper in the valley, at the village of Kiental, you will reach the actual valley road. The route then takes you up to the Tschingel Lake. Whilst the start of the tour was easy-going, it will now be necessary to downshift to the lowest possible gear. With a 28% gradient you will ascend through the Gries Canyon up to Griesalp. After another 400 meters in altitude difference you will reach Bundalp, the turning point of this tour. Your descent down to the Kien Valley is fast and furious. A hefty uphill is now on your program and your calf-muscles will be challenged to the utmost before you are rewarded with a fine downhill ride to Reichenbach.
