Intro

General Suvorov and 20,000 soldiers once marched from the Schächental Valley across Chinzig Chulm to the Muotathal Valley. If the troops had known then that they were using one of the most attractive mountain bike routes in Central Switzerland …

Description

First you have to get across Chinzig Pass. To do so, you travel from Flüelen along Axenstrasse to Sisikon and climb up the Riemenstalden Valley on a small road. After a little more than 1000 meters in altitude, you arrive at Höchi where the fast downhill ride into the Muotathal Valley begins. Just above the village of Muotathal, the actual ascent to Chinzig is behind you, but there are another 1200 meters in altitude to struggle up. The small road continues through the solitary Hürital and all the way at the end of the valley the route changes to a fairly steep alpine road all the way to Chinzig Chulm. Way back then, this road was not available to the 20,000 soldiers on their way to St. Petersburg. They hauled all of their gear across the mountains on a small path – unthinkable today.

This small, but well developed mountain road leads down to the Schächental Valley, shortly reaching Fleschsee lake, high above the bottom of the valley. There are several options here to get to Flüelen, but all of them are very technical. The official and most harmless route takes you via Eggberge back to Altdorf, first on a gravel road changing to asphalt at the end, and finally to the shores of Lake Lucerne near Flüelen. Well, if Suvorov’s soldiers had known how much fun you can have on Chinzig, there might have been fewer battles fought.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
