The marshy area called "Pouta Fontana", east of Sion, is located between a quarry and the Rhone. It is the largest and most species-diverse wetland area in the valley of the Rhone above Lake Geneva. The nature reserve consists of 32 hectares of woodland, undergrowth, rushes, reed meadows and ponds. It is an area where wildlife can nest and take shelter. Over 160 different bird species have been observed here.
