The remoteness of the Val d'Herens has perhaps helped to ensure that its cultural artefacts have remained intact until today. Rye bread is still traditionally made by hand, as is alp cheese. It is especially in Nax where culture aficionados find their money's worth: the sawmill, the village oven, the church and the "Maison Paysanne du Valais" are just some of the many riches to be found here.
