Trains and funiculars have always played an important role in Crans-Montana. On the one hand they link the resort to the Rhone Valley, on the other hand they are showcased in a museum for miniature trains.

For 100 years a funicular has linked the villages of Siders and Crans-Montana. But hardly anyone knows that the funicular, which covers a distance of 4,191 meters and overcomes a height difference of 927 meters. It is one of Europe’s longest. The funicular ride takes only 12 minutes.

A visit to the Swiss Federal Railways Foundation, which documents the history of Swiss train travel between 1847 and today, is very rewarding. The 1300 trains in miniature format, displayed in over 40 display cases, with 600 meters of tracks, give excellent insight into this fascinating field.
