|Getting to the starting point:||Bus to Starkenbach, cableway zur Alp Vorderselun|
|Getting to the destination:||Cableway from Sellamatt to Alt St. Johann (max. 4 people/ride)|
|Season:||June till October|
If the trip on the nostalgic cable railway through the airy heights is just a bit too much on the adventurous side for some, there's always the option of covering the first 700 altitude metres on foot - leaving the others to float up to the Strichboden at a leisurely 3 metres per second. The stunning panorama from the Schwarzwald across the Alpstein massif and to the Austrian Alps will tempt you to linger longer - as will the welcoming Wildmannli mountain restaurant with its hearty Toggenburg specialities.
Experienced hikers can brave the ascent up the Selun, the last of the Churfirsten peaks, as an extra section to the hike. Casual hikers continue on to the Wildenmannlisloch with its 150-metre long easily accessible cave about which legends abound. The hilly alpine path up to the Alp Sellamatt is more like a walk than a hike as such. Here, right at the mountain hotel, a combined cable railway/chairlift will take you back down into the valley. On the final stretch you'll be able to read about the local myths of the past on signs along the Toggenburg Fable Trail. Sellamatt marks the start of your next adventure - the magical Sound Trail that opens up new worlds to both young and old.
The careful planning of a tour will ensure that you also derive the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from it. Please take the time to contact the local information centre and enquire about route and weather conditions before setting off. Your intended trail may be fully or partially closed, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.
