The Species Garden was started in 1985 with a few seeds of the Goms pea that was threatened with extinction. Now it provides a home for old species of plant that are barely cultivated anywhere else any more. Whether these are old types of cereal or rare field flowers, they are all part of the history and diversity of Valais. Seeds are available for all species so that they can be grown in your own garden. The Species Garden is open to all. Follow the signs from the centre of the village (hiking paths).

Rye that is still grown on the terraces of Erschmatt, continues to be ground into flour in the village mill and then used to make traditional Valaisan rye bread. Those who are interested can sign up for a day in the bakery and help knead the dough and bake the bread. An experience for groups and families.
