On the San Bernardino loop, for once, the pleasant part happens to take place before the ascent. The well-known Passstrasse is both a blessing and a curse for the population of Misox (or Mesolcina in Italian). The Passstrasse brings transit traffic to the area, but it also makes the whole wide world accessible to the inhabitants. Bikers search for the more peaceful, less busy roads in the relatively barren valley and treat themselves now and then to a sip of pleasantly tasting mountain water.
