Intro

The Wyher Moated Castle was first mentioned in 1304. Several families of minor nobility held sway over Wyher in the High Middle Ages, including the influential Feer and Pfyffer families from Lucerne.

For over one hundred years (1480-1588) the Feer family was in the possession of Wyher, and for nearly 250 years (1588–1837) it was in the hands of the Pfyffer dynasty. In 1837 the castle and farm became the property of the Hüsler family, a farming family from Gunzwil. Slowly the castle complex fell into disrepair. In the summer of 1963, a fire almost completely destroyed the manor house. After the Canton of Lucerne purchased the castle ruin and established a foundation, the moated castle was restored thanks to private initiative and the support of patrons and trustees.
Since its renovation, the entire castle is available for private, business and cultural events involving groups of 20 to 300 people. It is particularly popular for wedding cocktails, with the castle gardens and courtyard as venues, or for evening events.
