Opening its doors in 1910, the art and history museum is one of the three largest museums in Switzerland and the only one to boast such varied collections of archaeology, and fine and applied arts. The result of a collaboration between several regional museums, donations from collectors, foundations and enlightened citizens, the wealth of the museum is further enhanced by the presence of major works and unique series which make it a centre for international reference.
