The Alp Flix, a moorland area of national importance, is within the Parc Ela, Switzerland's largest nature park. Researchers have counted over 2000 species of flora and fauna here on one day, when they discovered a previously unknown species of dung fly, now known as "Rhexoza flixella".
The circular hike starts at the new parking area (vehicles prohibited from here on), some way below the edge of the forest, and leads initially to the Hotel Piz Platta (also served from Sur by Bus Alpin). The route continues over the moorland plain and the Alpine hamlets of Tgalucas and Cuorts to the Flix lakes and Lai Neir.
Walkers return through the mountain forest down to the parking area or to Sur.
