Biel – Gaicht – Twann
The pagans saw these as sacred sites and venerated this remainder of the last Ice Age. At the Holenstein, the largest boulder, the mystique that emanated from these stones is palpable to this day. Many small boulders were split by Christians in the Middle Ages and thus demystified. The fractures are occasionally still visible.
At the Biel Railway Station follow the brown markers in the direction of Magglingen-Bahn. At the valley station of the Magglingen-Bahn (cable car) hike the trail leading to the Pavillon. At the Pavillon continue your hike in the direction of Tüscherz. At Tessenbergstrasse Bus Station follow the trail leading to Gaicht. At Nidauberg continue hiking in the direction of Gaicht. After a forest clearing turn left (leave the trail). After you reach the asphalt road, follow the hiking trail in the direction of Twann. At Holenstein continue towards Twann. At a clearing turn right (and leave the hiking trail). Subsequently walk to the village of Gaicht. In Gaicht, start on the trail leading to Twannbach Gorge. In the Twannbach Gorge hike in the direction of Twann. Trains to Biel depart regularly from the Twann Railway Station.
