Switzerland’s youth hostels consider comprehensive environmental management, taking ecology into account with structures as well as operations. Highest standards and best labels serve as a gauge - and it won’t be long until all Switzerland’s youth hostels will bear the EU symbol for environmental protection and “Capricorn” certification label.

The following three youth hostel projects deserve a special mention:

  • St Moritz youth hostel: In a Greenpeace youths’ solar project, 24 youths from Kenya, Poland, USA and Switzerland installed a 160m2 photovoltaic system and 60 m2 thermic solar facility on the St Moritz youth hostel.
  • Interlaken youth hostel: Opened in May 2012, Interlaken’s youth hostel is the first to achieve the MINERGIE P Standard.
  • Scoul youth hostel: The Scoul youth hostel has been awarded five Capricorn labels and thus highest possible number of points for all youth hostel operations in Switzerland.
