Eastern Switzerland is regarded as textile country and looks back on a long, broad and flourishing tradition as home to the textile industry. And this very day, numerous enterprises from eastern Switzerland continue as world leaders in the textile branch.

Together with diverse partners from the tourism and hotel branches, eastern Switzerland’s “Textilland Ostschweiz” association offers a wealth of ways in which the public can experience the cultural heritage and valued know-how of Switzerland’s textile industry up close.

A journey back in time to St. Gallen’s textile museum - or a visit to the Neuthal spinning mill to view the birth of garn on historic machines are just two ways of delving into the history of fabrics – and numerous additional experience worlds provide a live introduction to the cultural past as you trace back fascinating textile footprints. Leading hotels in eastern Switzerland have created special textile-country rooms with selective regional fabrics - and of course special tours and countless shopping possibilities are yours to delight in.
