The via ferrata on the Rotstock, 260 metres in length, is a route for via ferrata walkers and experienced mountain walkers with a head for heights (and with the right safety equipment). The key to the climb is the vertical section immediately after the start. In the event of snow, strong rain or ice, this is very definitely not a route to be climbed. Like anywhere else on the Eiger, rock-falls cannot be ruled out.

Difficulty
K2. Slightly to moderately difficult.
Valley/Starting-point:
Eigergletscher station (2,320 m), by rail from Interlaken Ost via Wengen or Grindelwald and Kleine Scheidegg (2,061 m).

Walk-in
From the Eigergletscher station, follow the Eiger Trail to the grassy hillock at Wart, and then follow paths up to the start point at 2,400 m, behind a mountain-top, with the Rotstockschlucht gorge immediately to your left: 45 minutes.
Eiger-Rotstock via ferrata:
The course of the route via the new-old via ferrata is easily visible; easy walking sections are marked only with cairns. From the saddle of Rotstock, you quickly climb in stages onto the flat peak of Rotstock (2,663 m), with sheer faces on all sides; 1 hour 15 minutes from the start.

Descent
Head back to the saddle and then to the south-west, across scree and slab sections (cairns and fixed ropes) down to the Eigergletscher station; 45 minutes.
