Nowhere in Switzerland is the night sky as bright and clear as in the Val Müstair. This is due to its fog-free setting, the dry and non-windy microclimate and the lack of strong artificial light sources. As a result, the observatory in the village of Lü has become a centre for ambitious amateur astronomers. However, it is not only the night sky that you can almost touch here. Go for a winter hike on the Senda Val Müstair trail high up on the sunny side of the valley where there is plenty of light and admire the beautiful views toward the peaks of the Münstertal and Vinschgau valleys. The route starts near the valley station of the Minschuns sports cable railway (catch the sports bus at the Tschierv village centre free of charge). Climbing gently, the trail leads to the Alp da Munt and continues on to the frozen Lai da Juata lake. Then it makes a gradual descent via the Alp Champatsch to Lü. From there you return by post bus to Tschierv – or take the toboggan run down into the valley.
The careful planning of a tour will ensure that you also derive the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from it. Please take the time to contact the local information centre and enquire about route and weather conditions before setting off. Your intended trail may be fully or partially closed, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.
