It’s not only the skiers and snowboarders who find winter fun amid a breathtaking setting in Leysin – this traditional mountain resort in the Vaud Alps is also home to attractive winter hiking trails. The round trip to the viewing point at Prafandaz is especially attractive. Start out at Versmont railway station and follow the gentle ascent to the edge of the village and continue through the woods and to the snow-covered pastures of Prélan. Even from here you will enjoy the lovely views of the Rhone plain and the Dents du Midi. Now back in the forest you climb with twists and turns up towards Prafandaz. The panorama that awaits you here is out of this world: Your view extends from the Diablerets massif to the Lake Geneva basin. A few steps further take you to the Prafandaz mountain restaurant. The menu here features no fewer than two dozen varieties of fondue. To continue your hike, cross the trackbed of the neighboring ski lift and then follow the gentle descent to the Leysin-Fedey railway station.
Leysin-Feydey - Prafandaz - Leysin-Feydey
The tour begins at the station in Feydey and at first follows the road in the direction of Prafandaz. Once in Prafandaz, the trail continues in a loop around the small plateau. The return trip follows the same trail back down to Leysin.
The careful planning of a tour will ensure that you also derive the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from it. Please take the time to contact the local information centre and enquire about route and weather conditions before setting off. Your intended trail may be fully or partially closed, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.
