What an expanse, and oh what light! With its extraordinary natural beauty, the Engadin has attracted numerous philosophers and artists of whom many have fallen in love with the plateau with the scenic lakes between St. Moritz and Maloja. In winter the plateau has a unique charm of its own because you may cross this mountain arena on an almost perfectly flat winter trail. Take the bus to the starting point at Silvaplana. From here first follow the southern shore of Lake Silvaplana to Sils-Maria. When you reach the Chastè peninsula walk onto the frozen Lake Sils and have the extraordinary experience of crossing a totally flat landscape amid the Swiss mountains. The trail leads straight across the lake – truly a unique hiking experience! Weather permitting there is a small bar that operates in the middle of the lake. Continue your effortless hiking towards the sun and on to Maloja. Return from there by bus.
The careful planning of a tour will ensure that you also derive the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from it. Please take the time to contact the local information centre and enquire about route and weather conditions before setting off. Your intended trail may be fully or partially closed, depending on the time of year and weather conditions.
