Intro

Since 2003 an alpine cattle descent has been celebrated in the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch. Authentic customs and traditions are enthusiastically celebrated and lived on this festive occasion, attracting a large audience.

Seven alpine families walk in September in beautiful costumes with 200 cows and oxen from the authentic alpine huts around Sörenberg down to Schüpfheim – accompanied by colorful folkloric groups. The magnificent parade through the village is the climax of the Entlebuch alpine cattle descent, which is much more than a traditional day of celebration for alpine villagers and dairyfarmers.

The largest annual recurring event of the region gives guests from near and far the unique opportunity to experience live folk tradition: the flag is swung with gusto, the alpine horn is blown and there is yodeling. At the large market the best produce of the region can be bought – ranging from alpine cheese to sausage to jam. And in the local pubs, which have been lovingly decorated by local associations, guests eat and drink heartily.
