The UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Entlebuch
is the first and – as yet – only one to be
listed in Switzerland (in accordance with the
Seville criteria).
Centrally located between Bern and Lucerne
and covering an area of 400 km2, the protected
area includes the largest and most
numerous moorland landscapes in Switzerland,
and is home to fauna and flora of national
and international importance. The reserve
offers not only peace and relaxation in an
unspoilt natural setting, but also a multitude
of leisure activities: from moorland walks to
fairytale-themed trails, from Kneipp cures
(a hydrotherapy treatment) to dips in natural
moor baths, and from excursions led by
experts to satellite-guided hikes – and much
more.
