Brienz

This historic hotel, set beside the foaming waters of the celebrated Giessbach Falls high above Lake Brienz, is a small, exquisite world of its own – just as it was one hundred years ago. Surrounded by mountains, forests and Alpine meadows, and offering a breathtaking view of the unspoilt scenery of Lake Brienz, the hotel is a secluded oasis: an escape from traffic, stress and everyday routine.
The historic hotel of the year 2004

The impressive palace hotel was built from 1873 to 1875 according to the plans of Bernese architect Horace Edouard Davinet. After a big fire in 1883, it was renovated in the style, which marks its appearance today. The hotel was a flourishing spa resort up to the first World War. Then it started its long decline, which brought it to the brink of destruction. In 1983, the Franz Weber foundation bought the hotel and gave it back its former luster. The location of the hotel is absolutely unique and comprises a waterfall, access to the lake, a private boat stop and a funicular. Thanks to marketing efforts underlining the monumental quality of this estate saved in exemplary fashion, the Giessbach Hotel has become a reference among the historic hotels of Switzerland.
