Special Commendation 2000: The guesthouse 'Rössli' in Mogelsberg, a model village when it comes to retaining its ancient structure, was constructed after 1785 either by Johann Ulrich or Johann Jakob Haltiner to a commission from Johann Georg Lenggenhager. The imposing log cabin style construction, faced with shingle, has a completely preserved exterior including impressive rows of windows encircling the three main storeys as well as a curb roof with four curving gables pointing in all four directions of the compass.
A high-quality wrought-iron rococo inn-sign including a horse and the coat of arms of the abbey of St Gallen hangs from the façade. Every door - both inside and out - is an original. The windows in the attic gables are the original baroque, while those in the guest lounges and guest bedrooms were made in the 19th and 20th centuries to a high standard of craftsmanship.
The guesthouse Rössli in Mogelsberg, St Gallen receives special recognition "for the thoughtful, culturally aware maintenance of this extraordinary guesthouse from the late 18th century with loving and humorous contemporary additions." The hotel is entirely focused on its 200-year history and its continued high-quality operation. Excellent cuisine using local ingredients and art exhibitions in the guest lounges bear witness to the hosts' thoughtful attitude to nature and culture. New items to the inventory are added with extreme skill and care.
