In a dominant position alongside the old through-route to Huttwil, an annex with four axes was added to the building towards the end of the 19th century including a shop on the south side. A large hall for functions was added at the rear shortly after 1900.
The "Bären" was extensively renovated in 1984/85 by the owner at the time. Following his bankruptcy, the "Bären" passed into the hands of René Brogli from Seen, Aargau in 1997. Right from the very beginning, he showed an awareness of the building's historical value. Together with the cantonal monument preservation authority, he prepared a restoration concept for the inn and the large hall. In the restoration phase completed in 1998, the "Bären" was lovingly restored to its original state.There is a real sense of occasion in this house. One feels like a welcome guest in a hotel whose marketing philosophy clearly focuses on the historic nature of the building and the large hall. The latter offers an historical ambience rarely found in a country inn.
