The inn was awarded a special prize offered by the Swiss Mobiliar Insurance for having "retained the inn's original functionality of the two buildings dating back to the 17th century, the large inn and the restaurant, respectively."
The inn and restaurant with its six- and seven-part windows dates back to 1536, when Hans Herzog built it. The building remained in this family till 1837. Then, from 1837-1868 and again from 1883-1984, the family Wueest exploited the Hirschen.

In 1984, the Stocker brothers from Neudorf took over this historic hotel. They, in turn restored and built an addition to it from 1984-86, and again from 2000-2001.

The interior doors and the clap shutters between the three historic buildings date back to the Baroque epoch. They function as partitions, which can easily make a room bigger or smaller, as is seen fit. Even the chairs and tables, as well as the double-glazed windows, are careful copies made of walnut and cherry wood, as well as oak. It is certainly due to this that guests feel steeped in history. But one should not neglect to mention the owners' enthusiasm and love for their historic building and its interior, which is certainly infectious.
