Gyrenbad / Turbenthal

The first historical mention of the Gyrenbad baths is in the Zürich tax register of 1464. The present structure dates from the 17th century. The reputation of the medicinal baths and sanatorium brought enormous popularity; after the baths closed down in 1968, the Gyrenbad inn remained a popular destination for outings and a much-loved venue for social gatherings.
The historic hotel of the year 1997

This complex of buildings had been growing in increments during the past three centuries until renovations respecting the historic substance were undertaken from 1990 to 1992. The core building dating back to 1622, a half-timbered building covered with shingles, comprises a restaurant with wooden paneling from the 19th century. In the place of the former baroque bath hut, the western part of the building was erected in 1826 to shelter a bathhouse where water and whey cures were proposed till 1968. Prior to 1850, the eastern wing of the building was constructed. It comprised a dining room with a stucco ceiling and art nouveau chandeliers, as well as ladies rooms and guest rooms. The former spa is now a high quality inn with an authentic building substance and a culture upholding its historic dimension.
