Usage was a key consideration in this architectural preservation project to restore and revitalize the Hof - old rooms, the cellars and the stores have been converted to create a functioning inn. This has created access from street and square level via a public "inner alley" and also means that the "piano nobile" with its historic rooms can be sensitively shielded from intensive usage and its inevitable consequences such as wear and tear and ongoing technical and structural improvements.
All new additions use functional architectural forms with no over-ornate exercises in stylistic composition. Works by contemporary Swiss artists (Pippilotti Rist, Roman Signer) have been painstakingly integrated into the architecture. Last but not least, a great deal of care has been taken over the restaurant with its regional cuisine.
