Barren high moors, flowery low moor bogs and a primeval moorland delight the senses! Moors - as far as the eye can see and your feet will carry you. Nowhere else in Switzerland are there so many nationally protected moors in such a small area as in the Entlebuch: 44 high moors, 61 low moor bogs and 4 moorlands characterise the landscape. Mysterious moor trails, old pass routes, wonderful vantage points and much more await visitors on their tour through the UNESCO biosphere.
The Entlebuch, in central location between Bern and Lucerne, is the first and as yet only biosphere reserve in Switzerland that satisfies the Seville criteria. In the worldwide network of biosphere reserves the region represents the moorland and karst landscape of the Alpine foothills.
