What is offered here relates to the whole of the Vallemaggia, a south-facing Alpine valley that covers about a fifth of the canton of Ticino. It is a huge and varied area that extends from the bottom of the valley, unique in Switzerland for its natural unspoilt river landscape that offers many delightful spots to swim in summer, up to the high mountain summits that rise to 3000 metres above sea level.
The side valleys with their small villages are particulary interesting and true gems in in terms of scenery: the Rovana valley which terminates at Bosco Gurin (1505 metres above sea level), home to a Walser community; the Bavona valley, the rockiest and steepest in the Alps, which winds through a rocky paradise offering delightful views and where the community has chosen not to have electricity and Val Lavizzara which climbs up to the remarkable village of Fusio.
The eco-Hotel Cristallina, the point of departure for the excursions on the "Footpaths of Stone", is to be found in Coglio in the bottom of the valley 17 km from Locarno.
Eco-hotel Cristallina
The eco-Hotel Cristallina is surrounded by the woods and fields that cloak the slopes of the nearby mountains and makes an ideal point of departure for many excursions and a variety of nature-based activities.
The hotel has 10 double rooms, two triple or family rooms and a room for courses and seminars. The hotel is managed along ecological lines and guarantees the quality of the environment and respect for natural resources, thus promoting sustainable tourism.
In 2005, the hotel received the recognition of WWF Ticino for its "Sun on the roof" and won the Swiss solar prize in the "improvements" category. The hotel's kitchen offers natural food using both seasonal regional and organic products.
