At the 2,350-metre summit, your eyes take in an almost inconceivably vast panorama. The Alps of Central Switzerland, with the Pilatus, Rigi and Titlis; the peaks of the Bernese Oberland topping 4,000 metres, including the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau; and over in the Jura, the Chasseral: all can be seen on a clear day.
The Brienz Rothorn Railway, Switzerland's oldest steam cog railway, has climbed Rothorn Kulm (2244m) hissing, huffing and puffing since 1892. Try conquering 1,678 meters of altitude differential and 25% gradient without getting short of breath!
