Experience the rich past of Zürich step by step. A guided tour of the Zürich Old Town is well worth while: during a stroll through crooked, cobbled lanes that take you past hidden inner courtyards, elaborate orels and selected buildings, stories and anecdotes make the people who moulded the city of Zürich over the past 2000 years come alive.
Among Zürich's most important landmarks are the city's principle churches, Fraumünster, Grossmünster and St. Peter's church:

Fraumünster, formerly the church for the noblewomen of Zürich donated by Louis the German (853), has foundation remains dating from the 9th to 11th century. The church is well known for its beautiful stained glass windows by Marc Chagall in the chancel (1970).

Grossmünster, with its unique twin spires, is probably Carolingian in origin and was the mother church of the Reformation in Switzerland under Ulrich Zwingli. The oldest parts are the crypt and remains of a Romanesque cloister with statuary from the 11th and 12th centuries. The chancel window was created by Augusto Giacometti.

The tower clock of St. Peter's church has Europe's largest clock dial with a diameter of 8.70 meters.
