Its oldest part consists of a spacious High Medieval complex which was the seat of the ruling Counts of Lenzburg, later of the Kyburg dynasty, and subsequently of the Counts of Habsburg.
It became the Bernese bailiff's residence when Lenzburg fell to the Bernese in 1415. The castle now accommodates the historical museum of Canton Aargau, and the Rittersaal and Schlosshof are used as a cultural and conference center.

Location:
The castle is situated on top of a hill of molasses between Aarau and Baden.

Opening hours:
April 1 to October 31
Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.
Monday and on the 2nd Friday in July closed.
Whitmonday open.
Good Friday and Easter Monday open, provides this days are in April.
