The oldest town in Switzerland, settled 5,000 years ago. The old town has a number of historic buildings and monuments worth seeing: the 800 year old cathedral (diocesan town), Roman ruins, the Graubünden Natural History Museum, the Rhaetian Museum, the Graubünden Art Museum.

This village of sgraffito-decorated houses in the Engadine/Scuol holiday region enjoys national protection.

The poet and storyteller Johanna Spyri was inspired to write her Heidi stories by her many stays and long walks in the Maienfeld area, especially in Maienfeld itself and Jenins.

The church of St. John originates from 785. Its frescoes, the world's largest cycle of early medieval frescoes, date from the year 800 and are a gem of visual art from Carolingian times.

St. Martin Church in Zillis is a cultural asset of international status. The almost perfectly preserved late-12th-century painted ceiling with its 153 paintings is the oldest late Romanesque piece of this genre in Western Europe.
