At the Ballenberg Open-Air Museum you can
visit 100 original, centuries-old houses and
farmhouses from all over Switzerland; explore
“historical” gardens and fields; and make a
journey of discovery in our large medicinal
plant garden. You can see examples of all
the different kinds of farm animals that are to
be found in Switzerland; and in the workshops,
watch craftspeople demonstrating old
handicrafts and trades: charcoal burning, forging,
baking, cheese making, weaving, shingle
making, and much more. A lively programme
of events gives a special insight into
rural customs of both past and present.
Here, you can experience the whole of Switzerland: in an area just 1.7 km long and 500 m across.
