The Swiss part of the Way of St. James takes slightly different routes. They begin in Constance or St.Gallen and lead to Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken, Bern, Fribourg, Lausanne and Geneva.
You can follow the traces of St. James the old slow way on foot, but you can also go by bike. Take your time to visit some of the traditional pilgrims' stations along the way: the chapel of Bernrain near Kreuzlingen with its story of the "mircale of the nose", the monastery of St.Gallen, the black Madonna at Einsiedeln, the Romanesque churches on the shores of lake Thun, the ruins of the priorate of Cluny at Rueggisberg, the 1000-year old abbey church at Payerne, the charming little towns of Romont and Moudon and, finally, Lausanne, whose magnificent cathedral has seen popes and kings bend their knees. The Swiss portion of the pilgrimage way traditionally ends with a boattrip from Lausanne to Geneva.
Thanks to the well-developed network of public transportation, any part of the Way of St. James in Switzerland can be travelled by boat, bus or train
