Rorschacherberg

Castle Wartegg was built in 1557 as a renaissance palace above the southern shore of Lake Constance. After 1960, the refuge of Zita, last empress of Austria, fell silent – like Sleeping Beauty’s castle.
In 1994 the castle was brought back to life and carefully converted into a hotel, the preserved structure enhanced and renewed with traditional materials, making elegant use of forms. The castle looks out onto magnifi cent English-style grounds of national importance; also unique is the kitchen garden, planted with historic and traditional varieties that feature in the excellent fresh and seasonal cuisine.
