Yvonand is famous not just for its fine sandy beaches on the southern shores of Lake Neuchâtel, but also for its early settlers, who are known to have inhabited the caves of the Vallon de Vaux as long ago as 4000 B.C.
There are even some rock paintings dating back to that era.
The Bronze Age saw the emergence of the first pile dwellings of Yvonand and the Celts and Romans liked it here, too, as numerous excavations have proven.

The Hotel de la Gare is located in the centre of the village of Yvonand. Despite the name, the late 19th century building it occupies was not built for the railway, however, but for those who still travelled by coach, since Yvonand was a busy and popular staging post even in those days.
