The charming Hotel Masson is thought to be the oldest hotel in Montreux. Built as a typical vintner's house in 1832, it was restyled as a pension in 1855. The 33-room hotel is located on the Simplon Route, one of Europe's oldest transalpine arteries, just a short walk from the lakeshore, the woods and the centre of Montreux. What is most striking about the interior is the floral wallpaper, period furniture, old paintings and antique parquet floors. Not that guests have to forgo any mod cons; the rooms have all the comforts one would expect of a modern-day hotel.

The grandezza of days gone by still permeates this building – thanks to its high ceilings and beautiful parquet floors.

These have long been creaking under the footfall of aristocrats, philosophers, painters and poets – and indeed all those who have drawn inspiration from this beautifully situated establishment.
