Ticino
Ticino occupies the southernmost corner of Switzerland. Here, people speak Italian, eat well and enthusiastically embrace the sunny side of life. “In summer it’s so magical here,” say the old Ticinesi, “that at night the stars move closer together, so that they all find room above paradise.” And this paradise is exceptionally varied: with its lakes and romantic shores, its charming towns full of boutiques and music, and its unspoilt valleys, blanketed in forests of sweet chestnut and laced with beautiful long footpaths.

Geological treasure chest.

Two hundred million years ago, San Giorgio was immersed under a sea a hundred metres deep. When the sea receded, it left behind archaic landscapes and beautifully preserved fossils, including 80 species of fish and 30 species of marine and land reptiles. Walkers on the hiking trail around the Monte San Giorgio, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, can learn all about the flora, fauna and geological formations of this mountain.
